Nomination for GREAT Award, The Association of Private Sector Colleges & Universities
Recognition for Graduate work for Excellence,  Achievement & Talent

Tasha Powell, was an exemplary and driven student throughout her
program with Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Los Angeles. From
our very first meeting during her first term on campus, Tasha
expressed her desires to one day be a Food TV personality or Food
Writer. But Tasha, coming from a background in media, was aware of all
the challenges associated with breaking out in this field. However, we
discussed ideas to aid her in launching her career in this area: (1)
begin networking with chefs (through staging & catering events), (2)
reading autobiographies of chefs she admired and who are now TV
personalities or Writers, (3) develop a food blog to enhance her
writing as well as develop her portfolio and lastly, take full
advantage of every opportunity to volunteer through campus events.
Tasha, took full charge of her career goals, seizing these ideas and
much more. She has developed an amazing food blog
(www.tashasculinaryjourney.wordpress.com) and cooking video demos, which
showcases her writing & cooking abilities. She developed a Facebook
page where she has networked with a host of celebrity chefs (Sherry
Yard being one) interviewing them and gaining tips from them on the
how to succeed in this industry.

Tasha also became heavily involved in
campus clubs, events and volunteering. These experiences added value
and relevant skills to her resume, because of this Tasha was able to
secure not one, but two externship opportunities in the same area
of France at (Auberge La Feniere, a Michelin starred restaurant in
Lourmarin & Quai70 in Puyricard) both well respected restaurants with
renown local chefs. Tasha successfully completed her work with both
chefs and is excelling in the culinary field; finishing her program
with a 4.0 GPA. Tasha is currently working in media within product and
development; she is also spearheading several freelance catering
events in addition to having a pending offer with Club Med as a Chef
de Partie.

Background prior to Le Cordon Bleu (Career & Education)

Creative, resourceful executive with 12 years of experience in brand
development, licensing, consumer product design, product development,
packaging, global sourcing and production. Expertise in the area of
innovative products that capture the “wow” factor by adding unique
design features, functionality, play value or capturing the essence of
the brand identities. Success growing the licensed business by leading
a team of designers and product experts, adding brands, expanding
categories and gaining market share.

Reason for choosing to attend Le Cordon Bleu
I chose Le Cordon Bleu for its reputation for excellence in culinary
education and because I wanted to be affiliated with an educational
institution that could open doors for me in the culinary world through
its vast network of students, chef instructors, educators and career
services professionals.
Volunteer work:
For the last five years, I have been a member and officer of Beach
Cities Toastmasters in Manhattan Beach, CA.  I have been VP of Public
Relations twice and VP of Education for one term. Being a Toastmasters
gave me the opportunity to work on my public speaking skills and
leadership skills as well as mentor new members as they joined the
club. I also volunteer to be a speech evaluator which is great
practice in defining the positive performance as we as areas of
improvement for each speech which translates so well in a working
environment.
